Another difference you’ll find is bumper plates all have the same diameter. The diameter of a rubber coated weight plate will generally decrease as the weight decreases.

How are bumper plates different from traditional iron plates?

Bumper plates are made of rubber, which allows them to be dropped safely without causing damage. Traditional iron plates are not designed for dropping and can damage both the floor and the plates if dropped.
