Strength Training Equipment for Kids & Teens
Strength Training for Kids & Teens
Strength training is safe and genuinely good for kids — when it's properly supervised and built around good technique instead of heavy weight.
Whether your child is just curious or training hard for a sport, we'll help you choose the right equipment for their age, their goals, and your space — gear that grows with them. Not sure where to start? That's what our showroom team is here for.
Is it safe for kids to lift?
Yes. The major pediatric and sports-science bodies all support kids strength training when it's well designed and properly supervised.
The old fear that lifting damages growth plates is outdated. In supervised programs built by knowledgeable adults, those injuries simply haven't shown up. The real risk has always been the same two things: too much weight, and no one watching the form. Get those right and strength training builds muscle, bone, coordination, and confidence.
A simple rule of thumb: by the tween and teen years, most kids are ready for structured, age-appropriate strength training — once they can follow directions and stay focused. The younger they start, the closer the supervision needs to be: an adult watching every rep for clean form. Competitive powerlifting, maxing out, and bodybuilding are best saved for the later teen years — early on, it's all about clean technique with lighter loads.
Start small.
You don't need to kit out a full gym to find out whether your child sticks with it. Start light, see if it clicks, and build from there.
A great low-cost first step is a lighter technique bar or a 15 kg / 35 lb bar paired with training or bumper plates. It lets a child learn the foundational lifts — the deadlift especially — with correct form, at a weight they can manage. If the interest sticks, you add plates over time.
Even lower commitment: resistance bands, light dumbbells, and bodyweight basics. Cheap, safe, and the perfect place to build good movement habits first.
Age changes everything
The equipment, the loads, and the goal all shift as kids grow. Here's how it breaks down.
Foundations
Bodyweight, bands, light medicine balls, and dowels for grooving form. Coordination and body awareness over weight.
Learning the Lifts
Adjustable dumbbells and kettlebells, a technique bar, and light loading. The major lifts and the muscles they train.
Building Real Strength
A 15 kg bar with bumper plates, a bench, a half rack, and landmines. Progressive, structured training under load.
Full Programming
Full racks, functional trainers, and heavier loading for serious athletes and growing lifters.
Training for a sport?
The right equipment can sharpen speed, power, and endurance — and help young athletes stay durable through a season.
Kettlebells and landmines build explosive, rotational power that carries over to almost every sport. Half racks and functional trainers open up full programming as athletes progress. Conditioning and plyometric gear develops the engine.
Worth knowing: in the early years, the most valuable thing isn't sport-specific drills — it's general strength and good movement skills. That broad base is what everything else is built on.
Built for the whole family
Some of the best equipment isn't just for the kids. Functional trainers, racks, and adjustable weights work for parents and siblings too — which makes them some of the smartest money you'll spend.
Kids are far more likely to stick with training when they see their parents doing it alongside them. Shared goals, friendly accountability, and time together — a home setup turns exercise into something the family does, not a chore the kid does alone.
And "grows with your child" adjustable gear means one purchase keeps working for years, across every age and ability in the house.
